(Authors note: This is a short response to the old school poem Mother to Son by Langston Hughes)
One example of the metaphor the poem “Mother to Son” is, a splintery junky staircase. The stair case symbolizes life, once you start you mustn’t stop, the splinters and missing boards show flaws and breaks in life but eventually you’ll hit the top. Another example of figurative language is, life for me isn’t been no crystal stair, this means her life hasn’t been perfect in any way but she still has lived a life
On another note, there is an itching tone to this poem. You must read this poem in a Sothern accent because if you don’t you’ll have no idea what is going on. This is a sad story simply because; you know that peoples life’s weren’t good back in the day, although it does show that they can live a better life than their assisters
