the lottery

Lotteries are normally good right? Well in this short story winning the lottery turns bad. Violent stoning and brutal beatings is the reward, forced to play as a town tradition. While other towns to the north quit their dirty ways this Southern town continues to kill people for who know why. Themes play a huge a role in this story, like all stories there are themes but these events really happened, and that provides a bone chilling thrill when you discover that winning the lottery could cost you your life. The theme that I will be discussing today is luck and change. Luck is shown every day, if luck didn’t exist you could wake up with a knife in your back, a gun to your head, or even you guts bleed.

on another note, the author showed luck on the first few pages, waking up to a fresh crisp new day. People gathered outside your house, as your family rushes out the door you are forced to clean the dishes. When you are finished you quickly join in, you see children gathering stones. It’s your time to draw, DARN! A black dot. You pray for the luck of god do save you but it’s over. Luck in this story isn’t not really luck it’s more like defeat and demise but its still luck. Picking that dot is a one and a thousand chance.
When you see rocks wising past your face, mauls smacking you, punches throne, it’s not a fight it’s a STONING and it won’t last long. Soon it’s done and normal life continues, well excluding you.

In conclusion, themes are powerful. Determining the curse of everything written, stories to books all have themes. Ranging from betrayal to freedom. They can be manipulated and mutated into wretched beasts, some may seem peaceful than snap, a twist. Creative a book that you simply can’t but down. In this case it’s luck and chance. But rember this, you don’t know what’s going to happen next, fear, life and joy...
